Our Story
This directory was built out of personal frustration. As an MSN student pursuing PMHNP certification, finding reliable, centralized information about nurse practitioner residency and fellowship programs was surprisingly difficult. Resources were scattered, outdated, or simply nonexistent — and for a student trying to research and compare programs while managing coursework, clinical hours, and everything else that comes with graduate school, that was a real problem.
So we did what any determined student would do: we started digging. Program by program, hospital system by hospital system, we scoured the internet looking for residencies and fellowships worth applying to. Along the way, it became clear that if we were collecting this information anyway, we might as well organize it in a way that could help others going through the same search.
APP Residency Finder is that idea made real — a free, comprehensive, and regularly updated directory designed specifically for NPs, PMHNPs, and other advanced practice providers navigating the residency and fellowship landscape. We built the tool we wished had existed when we started looking.
A Note on Terminology
Throughout this directory, we use the terms residency and fellowship interchangeably. For our purposes, there is no meaningful difference between the two — both refer to structured post-graduate training programs designed to help newly licensed or early-career advanced practice providers develop clinical competency in a specific specialty. Different institutions simply choose different names for their programs, and we list all of them together regardless of what a given program calls itself.
It is also worth clarifying that advanced practice provider residencies and fellowships are an entirely separate category from physician (MD/DO) residencies. While some NP, PA, and advanced practice provider programs are accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) through its Practice Transition Accreditation Program (PTAP), they are not accredited by or affiliated with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) — the body that accredits medical doctor residency programs. These are distinct accreditation systems for distinct professions. Many excellent APP residency and fellowship programs operate without any formal accreditation and are not listed in the ANCC database, which is why a resource like this directory is needed.
A Note on Accuracy & Availability
We work hard to keep this directory as accurate and up-to-date as possible, but there is something important you should understand about the nature of residency and fellowship programs: they change.
Some institutions launch a residency program to pilot the concept, only to discontinue it if the program doesn't meet their intended outcomes. Others run programs successfully for years, then pause when budget constraints or staffing changes make it temporarily unfeasible. Application deadlines shift, salary structures are revised, and new programs appear with little fanfare. This is simply the reality of a relatively young and still-evolving space in advanced practice education.
What this means for you: Always verify program details directly with the institution before making any decisions. Use this directory as a starting point for your research, not a final source of truth. If you apply for a program and find that information here is out of date, we'd genuinely appreciate you letting us know — your feedback helps keep the directory accurate for everyone.
We will do our best to keep listings current, but we cannot guarantee that every program listed is actively accepting applications at any given time.
Help Us Keep It Current
This directory is only as good as the information it contains. If you know of a program that isn't listed, have an update to share about an existing listing, or notice that something is out of date, please use the Submit Program button on the main directory page. Every submission is reviewed and helps make the resource better for everyone who comes after you.
You can also sign up for email updates — we'll notify you when new programs are added and keep you in the loop on any major changes to the directory.
